JCB Finance Welcomes New Apprentice

At JCB Finance, we support young talent and believe apprenticeships provide excellent learning opportunities in real-life workplace settings. To date, we have supported two apprentices who continue to make a positive contribution to the organisation's success.

Holly, our newest apprentice, joined the Compliance & Risk team in September. We asked her about her experience with JCB Finance so far and how she balances studying with her work duties.

When did you begin your apprenticeship with JCB Finance?

I started studying my apprenticeship in October 2022, after joining JCB Finance in September 2022.

How do you manage studying as well as your work activities and responsibilities?

The apprenticeship involves completing 20% off-the-job training. Me and my line manager agreed that I would have two half days each week to complete this training. The timing is very flexible, which is helpful for both the apprenticeship-side learning and scheduling and completing my work.

What are the best 3 things you've learned during your apprenticeship so far?

  1. Staying organised - I have improved at managing my time to meet my apprenticeship deadlines whilst also balancing work – something I used to struggle with!
  1. Improved confidence - feeling comfortable enough to ask questions and seek advice (both in my apprenticeship webinars and in my job role) has been something I have seen a huge improvement in since starting my apprenticeship course.?
  1. With the apprenticeship being a 'hands-on' type of learning, I feel as though my adaptation to the new job role has been much quicker, as I have been able to put my learning into practice.

What would you say are the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship compared to university studies?

After leaving university and beginning this apprenticeship course, I see many more benefits to apprenticeships. The practical element of learning combined with working in the role has encouraged me to learn more quickly and in much greater depth. Being able to put your learning into practice really helps to further your understanding. The opportunity to get paid whilst developing your education, although that is not the main benefit to studying an apprenticeship.?

How do you see your career at JCBF developing once you've achieved your apprenticeship qualification?

I plan to complete further qualifications which will support my career at JCB Finance.

JCB Finance is looking forward to supporting more apprenticeships in the future.
