JCB Finance supports National Apprenticeship Week 2024

National Apprenticeship Week is a week-long celebration which brings together businesses and apprentices across the UK to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

At JCB Finance, we have previously supported three apprenticeships - two in Compliance and Risk and another in IT infrastructure. All apprentices successfully completed their qualifications through a combination of in-classroom learning and on-the-job experience. All are now full-time employees and continue to make a positive contribution to the company's daily operations.

Holly joined the Compliance and Risk team in September 2022 as an apprentice and recently completed the Compliance Risk Officer Level 3 apprenticeship.

Holly’s success follows 15 months of learning on and off the job, working to produce an evidential portfolio and completing various additional training courses, including the ICA’s Certificate in Compliance.

We asked her about her experience with JCB Finance and her advice for others considering a similar path.

When did you begin your apprenticeship with JCB Finance?

I started studying my apprenticeship in October 2022, after joining JCB Finance in September 2022.

What are the best 3 things you've learned during your apprenticeship?

1. Risk Management – I have learned the importance of identifying the risks faced by JCB Finance and introduce controls which help to mitigate those risks. I have enjoyed sharing my learning with other people within the business.

2. Improved confidence – the apprenticeship programme has really helped in gaining confidence; with my knowledge improving alongside the apprenticeship completion, my confidence to communicate with others improved.

3. Hands-on learning – With the apprenticeship being a 'hands-on' type of learning, I feel as though I was able to adapt to my role quicker – following successful completion, I feel competent to carry out my role as a Risk Officer.

What would you say are the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship?

The practical element of learning combined with working in the role encouraged me to learn more quickly and in much greater depth. Being able to put your learning into practice really helps to further your understanding; following the successful completion of my apprenticeship, I felt much more capable of carrying out my role and duties than if I weren’t to have had the apprenticeship learning. Although not the main benefit of pursuing an apprenticeship, the opportunity to get paid whilst developing your education is a great bonus.

"Apprenticeships are an invaluable way of gaining formal qualifications whilst getting real and meaningful work experience. We’re proud of Holly and wish her all the best in her promotion as a Risk Officer.”  - Vanessa Poole – HR Director
